Shirley Kay Towner, 84, of Greenwood, WV, departed this life on February 4, 2021, at Pierpont Center in Fairmont, WV.
Shirley was born September 18, 1936 in the Central Station community of Doddridge County, WV, a daughter of the late Ezra Jacob Garner and Corma Ellen (Dotson) Garner Buck. During her career,
Shirley worked in the garment industry as a seamstress for Economy Industries in both Harrisville, WV and Pennsboro, WV. She was also a member of the West Union Christian Church. Shirley loved the Lord with her whole heart. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. These roles brought her great joy. She never met a stranger and was always helping others. She made beautiful quilts to give to her children and grandchildren and she patiently shared her creative spirit with the children who came to visit and paint ceramics. She was an extremely giving lady and touched the lives of so many. She always had an open door, a warm meal, and a listening ear. She was known as Grandma Shirley to many in the community. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Monnie (Randy) Moore of Morgantown, WV; Ruth Doak of Deep Run, NC; Mary (Mark) Hill of Deep Run, NC; Carla (Gary) Long of Jacksonville, FL; Marilyn Jett of West Union, WV; James Towner (Amber Loesch) of Dayton, OH; Grandchildren: Stephen (Barbara) Doak, James (Rachel) Doak, Ashley (Justin) Dahl, Isaac Swisher, Rebekah (Christopher) Oliver, Dustin Towner, Donna (Tim) Grittani, Heidi (John) Covington and Melanie Jett; Great Grandchildren: Abigail, Alivia, Lillian, Mackinley, Brezlyn, Huxley, Jackson, Aniston, Hannah, Caedmon, Lucy, Emmy, Micah, Abby, Aidan, Ethan, Raelynn and Jake; She is also survived by her Sisters, Ella Ruth Walton of Greenwood, WV, Betty Jean Ferrebee of Cortland, OH and her brother, Marion “Buck” (Pat) Garner of Parkersburg, WV as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, David Doak and Gale Doak and by her husband, James Towner.
The family will be announcing services for Shirley at a later date. She will be laid to rest in the Duckworth Cemetery near Greenwood, WV. McCullough-Rogers & Raiguel Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
