Ursula G Szmigiel

SALEM — Ursula G Szmigiel, 85, of Kincheloe Community, near Big Isaac, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Bridgeport Healthcare Center. 

She was born November 10, 1935 in Germany, the daughter of the late Karl and Pauline Weiss Drotschmann. 

Ursula was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. She was a factory worker in Illinois for over twenty years and chef in Ohio for over ten years. 

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  

Her hobbies were cooking, traveling, dancing, singing, shopping, and watching the birds and enjoying her flower gardens. 

She is survived by a daughter, Gabriele Smith of Kincheloe Community; four grandchildren, Crystal Gagnon and husband Adam, Big Isaac, Stacey Hoover and companion Dave Masontown, Zachary Hoover, Kingwood, and Phoenix Blincoe and husband Brad, Jeffersonville, IL; five great grandchildren, Cameron, Arianna, Carson, Beau and Woodrow; numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Ursula was preceded in death by her husband Bronislaw (Bruno) Szmigiel on December 31, 2007; siblings, Kathe Hlushka, Liselotte Goos, Karl Drotschmann, Gunter Drotschmann, and Irmgard Rill; two sons-in-law, Clarence “Bud” Hoover, and James “Smitty” Smith. 

Family received friends at Davis Funeral Home- Salem, 1999 W Main Street Salem, on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 5-7PM where a vigil service will be held at 7:00pm. 

A Catholic Funeral Liturgy was held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 10 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Akila Rodrigo as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt Lebanon Cemetery on Kincheloe.
