Nancy Lee Coffman


Nancy Lee Coffman, 82, of New Milton departed this life on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in New Milton on April 4, 1940, a daughter of the late Stacy Lee and Freda Ashworth McClain.  On June 1, 1957, she married Ora E. Coffman II who preceded her in death on May 2, 2019.

 Surviving are two daughters, Freda Annette Wu (Chris) Mars, PA, Cathy Orem (Pete) Franklin, TN, three sons, Ora E. “Rick” Coffman III (Linda), New Milton, Chris L. Coffman (Cassie), Ashley, Curtis T. Coffman, New Milton, grandchildren, Jill Bryant (Jared), Lori Davis (Jeremy), Jordan Hill  (Daniel), Emily Doll (Derek), Wesley Uhler (Morgan), Hannah Kress (Rob),  Amelia Orem, Colin Coffman, Grace Wu and Jacob Coffman, 10 great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death are two grandsons, Adam Young Coffman and Andrew Brooks Orem, one daughter-in-law, Melodie Coffman, one son-in-law, Gary Uhler, two sisters, Helen McClain, Jane Wanstreet, one brother, Roger McClain.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

 Mrs. Coffman was a 1957 graduate of Doddridge County High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from West Liberty and obtained her Masters in Education from Salem College and West Virginia University.  Nancy was an elementary school teacher in Brooke and Doddridge Counties and later became a Title I Reading Specialist in Doddridge County.  Nancy was a member of Blandville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed antiquing, sewing and studying the Bible.

 Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, Front St. West Union on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Davis presiding.  Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 2-8 p.m.  Expression of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.spurgeonfunerals.com.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to WVU Hospice 327 Medical Park Dr. Bridgeport, WV 26330.  Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Coffman family.
