Burnetta Cora Ford 
Hoskinson

Burnetta Cora Ford Hoskinson, 100, of Big Flint departed this life on Sunday August 14, 2022 in the United Hospital Center as the result of a heart attack.  She was born on Big Battle on April 16, 1922 a daughter of the late Jesse and Eska Hutson Ford. She was a member of the West Union Lions Club Auxiliary, Evergreen UMC, and Farm Women’s Club where she won an award from Farming for Better Living.  She served her country during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter”.  She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.

She married the late James A. “Jimmie” Hoskinson on December 20, 1947.  Together they operated their farm.  They were the parents of four children, Kenny (Eleanor) Hoskinson, Dave (Vickie) Hoskinson, Ronnie (Beverly) Hoskinson, and Linda (Jack) Lamp, grandchildren, Nicole Hoskinson, Ryan Hoskinson, David (Angela) Hoskinson, Nathaniel (Melissa) Hoskinson, Christina Hoskinson and Jessica Lehew, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.  She has two surviving siblings, Udora Keys and Velora Howerton, one brother-in-law, Billy Hoskinson and sister-in-law, Garnet Shahan.  She is also preceded in death by four brothers, Forrest, Homer, Oakey and Jesse Ford, three sisters, Maxine Ford, Marjorie Overstreet and Pauline Ash.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home, Front St. West Union on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Ford presiding.  Interment will follow in the Keys Cemetery, Big Flint.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 18, 2022 after 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Expression of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.spurgeonfunerals.com.  Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Hoskinson family.

Dixie Lee Rymer

Dixie Lee Rymer, 66 of Salem departed this life on August 8, 2022 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport.  She was born on June 29, 1956 at Spencer a daughter of the late Slats and Sarah Price.  

Surviving are her husband, Harold Rymer, Salem, one son Chris Burgess and wife Monica, Zanesville, OH, three grandchildren, Andrew James Burgess, Andrea Lee Burgess and Madison Grace Burgess.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Dixie had worked for several nursing homes in the area as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Connie Jo Weekley

Connie Jo Weekley, 77 of New Milton departed this life on Thursday, August 11, 2022.  She was born on March 22, 1945 at Wolf Pen a daughter of the late Blakeley and Sylvia Talva Kelley Nicholson.  She was preceded by her husband James C. Weekely Sr. on April 1, 2022.

Surviving are two sons, James C. Weekley, Jr. and companion Wendy Wilson, Fairmont, Timothy C. Weekley, New Milton, grandchildren, Bryon Welch, Steven and Trevor Hurst, Branden and Colten Weekley, great grandchildren, Hailey Golden and Kelse Swiger.  She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Nicholson, two sisters, Lula Schulte and Bonnie Runyon.

Connie was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and crafting.  She was a member of the West Union Church of Christ.  Connie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Henry David Cutlip

On August 14, 2022, Henry David Cutlip passed away unexpectedly.  David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynn L. Cutlip; daughter, Rena E. Cutlip-Mason; son, James George Cutlyp;  stepbrother, Pete Schnably; grandsons, Max Henry Cutlyp, Xavier Cutlip-Mason, and Sebastian Cutlip-Mason; and countless in-laws, nieces and nephews.  He was the son of Mrs. Rena Mick Cutlip and Reverend George L. Cutlip, and his stepmother, Caroline Wolfe Schnably Cutlip. 

David lived the larger part of his life in Harrison County. He came to the county in 1959 at the age of 10 when his father, Reverend George L. Cutlip, was appointed Vice President of Salem College. He attended Salem High School and went on to earn a BS degree in Chemistry from Salem College. His Masters Degree is from West Virginia University in Industrial Relations.  Over his lifetime, David was an entrepreneur that founded and worked on several public works projects both in the US and internationally.  David started his career in the education field completing numerous evaluations of the Elementary, Secondary Education Act, more commonly known as Title I.  He moved on to work with the Small Business Administration for fifteen years.  During part of that time he operated a construction company which specialized in solid cedar buildings.  Most notable of this work were the cabins he built at North Bend State Park, the visitor center at Snowshoe Ski resort, and the original visitor’s building at the New River Gorge National Park.  David would go on to later co-found Comvest Ltd, Inc., a company that developed and financed government projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic States.  Through Comvest Ltd., David financed over $400,000,000 of projects for cities, county commissions, volunteer fire departments, hospitals, and public service districts.  

David was also a public servant, holding positions over his lifetime with the Salem City Council, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Rotary Clubs of Clarksburg and Harrison County. He is past president of the Harrison County Development Authority. He was an active member of the Salem Baptist Church where he served on various boards, as a Deacon, and as a Trustee. He was an avid scholar of history and religious texts, and loved to travel.  

In retirement, David was an active board member of Fort New Salem, where among other projects he ran the gift shop.  One of his greatest accomplishments in retirement was his devotion and loving care of his wife.
