Doddridge County Commission Holds Regular Meeting

Shawn Glaspell, President of the Doddridge County Commission called their May 19, 2022 meeting to order at 4:00PM after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and holding a moment of silence. 

All of the Commissioners were present. 

The minutes from previous meeting were approved as presented. 

There was no Public Comments.

Under New Business, Jennifer Payne, HOPE, Inc., requested the Commissioners Proclaim April be the Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Commissioners approved her request unanimously. 

The Commissioners approved the Laying of the Property Tax Levy Rates at 14% for the Regular Levy and 2.25% for the Excess Levy. 

The Commissioners approved Shawn Glaspell,President,  to Authorize the Election and Release in concern of the Opioid Related Claims and Authorize a Support Letter for a 5 Mil. Dollar grant to Senator Capito for the Oxford Phase III and III. 

The Commission held a discussion with the Director and some members of the DC Humane Society concerning complaints over the charges for the animals, the rules covering spaying/neutering and other various concerns. No action was taken. 

The Commission approved a letter of support for a financial request from Senator Capito for a sewer extension project for the DC Park and another Letter of Support for the West Virginia Land Trust for opening a Nature Preserve. 

The Commission approved George Eidel, OEMS Director to apply for  FY 2022 Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $81,756  to be used to purchase new portable radios for the Sheriff’s Department. 

He then went on to report that the connectors to the new tower systems  were not available, but would be installed in the near future. 

He also reported that there had been one structure fire (Moonies) and that he would be working to assist Ritchie County Floodplain. 

Glaspell reported the DCAA had an account balance of $394,609.83 and income of $16,777.43. 

David King, CoW, Reported that 2/3 of the steel is up on the New Annex, that various meetings concerning the Security System, Electrical Systems, he was assisting the Health Department with their building project and people are inquiring about the old High School. 

Beth Kellar presented one Budget Revision, moving $1000 from one account to another to cover postage. 

There was no Exonerations or Probates presented for approval.

Glaspell made the motion to adjourn.
