Inflation is a Tax on all Americans

If you’ve been to the store or a gas station recently it should be no surprise inflation is at a 30-year high. More reckless spending on a far-left wish list will only spur more.

According to Moody’s the average American family is paying $175 more per month due to inflation. With inflation already at a record high what do we expect will happen if we spent trillions more?

Biden Wants to Look at Your Bank Account

The Biden Administration’s proposal to have the IRS monitor transactions for all bank accounts over $600 is an unacceptable intrusion into our lives. It represents a massive invasion of privacy. This week, we sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Yellen expressing our strong opposition.

Below is an excerpt from the letter:

The proposed tax information reporting requirements for financial institutions would not only impose significant compliance costs on our banks, credit unions, and related financial institutions, but also is a massive encroachment on the privacy of millions of Americans.

Specifically, such a proposal would require financial institutions to report information about the inflows and outflows on accounts over $600 to the IRS every year. Financial institutions already report a tremendous amount of data to the IRS, and no evidence has shown that such a broad mandate would substantially aid the IRS’s efforts to close the tax gap beyond the information already at the IRS’s disposal.

Protecting Parents First Amendment Rights

Earlier this week the Attorney General directed the Department of Justice to coordinate with the nation’s 14,000 school districts in order to protect schools from the “imminent threat” of parents protesting the teaching of critical race theory. The association considers such activities to be akin to “domestic terrorism.”

Let’s be clear: parents exercising their First Amendment rights to have a say in their children’s education are not “domestic terrorists.” They simply want the best for their kids. I am proud to sign on this letter to the Attorney General led by Rep. Lisa McClain.

McKinley Urges Biden to Allocate More COVID Treatments to West Virginia

This week, Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin, and Rep. Carol Miller  and I sent a letter urging the Biden Administration to allocate additional doses of Monoclonal Antibody (mAb) treatments to West Virginia, specifically the Regeneron (REGN-COV) treatment that can be administered more easily in rural non-hospital settings.

MAb treatments can help West Virginians avoid hospitalizations and serious complications from COVID-19. Additional doses will help reduce the stress on our hospitals at a time when West Virginia is experiencing high rates of COVID-19 infections.

West Virginia has experienced a surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in recent weeks, with both reaching pandemic records. We need to use every tool available to save lives and reduce the stress on our hospitals, including monoclonal antibody treatments. Simply put, greater availability of these treatments will save lives.
