Charles Robert Dotson

Charles Robert Dotson, 76, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV, following an extended illness.

Charlie was born December 9, 1944, in Wichita Falls, TX, son of the late Leonard Everett and Virginia Marie (Amos) Dotson.  He was a proud graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1962.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University in 1967.  Thereafter, Charlie began his 35 year career with Cabot Corporation of Waverly, WV, where he served as a lab tech until his retirement in 2003.  Charlie was a lifelong, avid learner, who opted to further his studies during his working career, eventually culminating in an Associates of Science Degree in Engineering Technology from Parkersburg Community College in 1989.

Charlie was very active in the community.  He was a 50 year member of the Pennsboro Church of Christ.  Additionally, he was a member of the Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years where he served in a variety of roles including President.  He was a member of the Ritchie County Historical Society and loved giving tours of the Old Stone House and the Pennsboro Train Depot.  Charlie greatly enjoyed amateur radio. He earned his radio license in 1974, and his call sign was “WB8NSL.” He was a longtime member of the Ritchie County Amateur Radio Group.  Charlie liked flying model airplanes and was a member of the Wing Nutz Model Airplane Club.  He also enjoyed model trains, jazz music and attending shows at the Ohio Valley Opry in McConnelsville, OH. Charlie also had a passion for and was a scholar of mathematics.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pamela K. (Doak) Dotson; daughter, Marsha Dotson of Belle Vernon, PA; son, Ryan Dotson and wife Christa of Bridgeport, WV; granddaughter, Emma Dotson of Bridgeport, WV; niece, Jennifer Walters McCullough (Brian) of Ellenboro, WV; great nieces, Celeste Walsh, Abigail Walsh, and Morgan McCullough, along with his special friends, Don Bowyer of Harrisville, WV; Rodney and Karen Jones of Harrisville, WV; Kenny and Linda Williamson of Pennsboro, WV, and his cats – Slick and Buddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Denise Walters and his special cats, Jack and Lily.    

Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.  McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV assisted the family with the arrangements.
