Gerald Bee “Jerry” Gains, 77 of Morgan’s Run Rd. West Union departed this life on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 28, 1944 a son of the late Opal Moore Gains. On September 4, 1970 he married Janie L. Holtz Gains who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Chad E. Gains (Victoria), West Union, Shawn K. Gains (Edwina), Salem , grandchildren, Stephanie Underwood (Dillon), Zachary Gains (Tara), Elijah and Isaiah Gains, one great granddaughter, Natalie Underwood, one sister, Jean VanWay, Parkersburg. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ednalene Stutler and Deloris Yeoman.
Early in life Jerry worked in the Oil, Gas and Coal Industry. He retired from the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital where he worked in Housekeeping with over 20 years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 647th Quartermaster Company during the Vietnam Conflict. Jerry took up Beekeeping after his service in Vietnam. He also enjoyed gardening and hunting. Jerry was a member of the Morgan’s Run U.B. Church where he served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Trustee. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ken Kelley presiding. Interment followed in the Masonic Memorial Park, West Union with Full Military Graveside Rites being conducted by the Combined Doddridge County Veterans Organization.
