Description: Tik Tok has been playing what is called the “morning-after pill challenge’. A Clear-Blue pregnancy test is broken open to reveal a desiccant (moisture absorbing) disc. Tik Tok viewers are then told this is a secret morning-after pill.
Demographics: In April 2021, two cases were reported to the WV Poison Center of students who had ingested the disc.
Patient Presentation: The disc should not cause significant toxicity and should not be a choking hazard. The main concern is the delay in the adolescent getting the correct information needed to respond to her pregnancy fear in an appropriate manner and with the needed decision making support and follow-up.
