Roy “White Top” Nicholson
Roy K “White Top” Nicholson, 86 of New Milton passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his residence with family by his side after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born August 12, 1937 in New Milton, son of the late Amos Edward and Dulcie “Dutch” Kelley Nicholson. Roy served in the United States Army Reserves and retired from CNG as a mechanic with over twenty-three years of service. He enjoyed working on the farm (Paradise Valley), hunting, slow and fast pitch softball, camping, fishing at Middle Fork Campground, ice skating, rollerblading, square dancing and woodworking. Roy was head mechanic and proud sponsor of Paradise Valley Racing team at both Tyler and Interstate 79 Speedway. He was an avid Mark Martin NASCAR fan and went to numerous races. You seldom left Paradise Valley without a piece of his work. Most of the wood was cut on the farm and sawed on his old Frick sawmill. His loved was his family and K-9 friend “Zeke” and spending time with them. Roy is survived by his wife Creola Marie Gaskins Nicholson whom he married on July 12, 1963; two sons, Jeffrey R Nicholson and wife Pamela Jean, Weston, Donavan L Nicholson and wife Pamela S, New Milton; three grandchildren, Donavan “DL” Nicholson and wife Kathy, Jesse Dotson and husband Steve, Dustin Nicholson and wife Lauren; eight great grandchildren, Trey, Addie, Kacen, Tucker, Alli, Emmie, Ollie, and Spencer; one brother, Milton Dean Nicholson, New Milton; one sister, Nancy Lee Skinner, Mineral Wells; two sisters-in-law, Anna Belle Gaskins Richards and Mary Grace Maxwell Gaskins; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma “Jean” Bonnell Nicholson on June 4, 1962; nine siblings, Ellen Marie Polan, Charles “Dickie” Nicholson, Carrie Cumberledge, Denzil Nicholson, Opal Mae Shafer, Betty Shafer, Eugene “Shorty” Nicholson, Bertie Ward, Phillip Nicholson; two special nephews, Carlen “Bill” Stone and Norman Nicholson; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Ellen Ford Gaskins. The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home West Union, 212 Front Street West Union, WV on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 11:00AM and until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Memorial Park, West Union.
