HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

DODDRIDGE COUNTY VETERANS

Names that were missed recognized.

While identifying and researching the history of Doddridge County’s Veterans, I tried so hard not to miss anyone.  Every Veteran has given so much in the service of this great Nation.  All county citizens should be (and I am sure are) very proud of each one.  These brave heroes offered and were prepared to give their lives as a sacrifice to keep us safe and free.  Some of them made the ultimate sacrifice.  Others have suffered wounds, both seen and unseen, that will never be healed.  We owe them so much more than we can ever repay.  But what we can do… we can remember to thank them and really mean it.  We can remember to honor them.  We can remember never to forget their service and sacrifice.

I know that only a handful of Veterans have been recognized with ornaments on our Christmas tree at the Doddridge County Courthouse compared to the number who served.  That bothers me a lot.  I wish every Veteran had an ornament.  So many of these young soldiers have no photos available, or at least I have not found them.

The entries these past two weeks were my way of recognizing each of them. If you should want to honor your loved one or loved ones on our tree, please contact me soon to make it on the tree by Christmas.  I’ll do everything in my power to make it happen. I shall take orders and get them for next year, even after Christmas.  Just let me know.

Regrettably, I did miss some of the names that should have been included on the list, and I apologize for that.  Below are the missed names I have thus far.  I would like to recognize and honor them now:

William L Bates; Edwin “Ed” Britton; Joe Britton; William P Britton; Cindy Kelley Corso; Kelly Cox; Clyde Maxwell Ford; James William McKinney; William Reid III; Chad L Richards; Karl Stout; and Crystal M Tuite.

If you should have corrections, additions, or other information regarding a Veteran still not listed or listed but misspelled, don’t hesitate to contact me at The Herald-Record, or you may email me directly at: [email protected].  You can also call me at 304-873-1540/ 304 266-1291.

Below is a list of the Veteran ornaments that have been created thus far.  Not all are on the tree this year, as they were taken home by the families who purchased them and may or may not have returned them to be placed on the tree this year.

May everyone have a free and blessed Christmas this year.

God Bless.
