CHRIS FRIEND

In the vampire folklore of the Romani or more commonly known as the Gypsies there is a particularly odd belief involving the common pumpkin. In the Balkans the Romani folklore any pumpkin left out after the holidays had the potential to become vampires. Melons and squash were also considered to be able to become vampires. But due to the pumpkins’ association with Halloween has helped to this odd belief. But it is the Christmas holidays that seem to be the springboard for the pumpkin’s vampiric transformation. If the pumpkins are not consumed by Christmas it was thought to turn ghoulish. It is possible that as the pumpkin decays it will develop blook like stains and may have created this strange superstition. The literature suggests that vampire pumpkins are less blood thirsty, and more inclined to drain their victims of their energy and leaving them exhausted. To avoid your pumpkin of becoming a vampire just bash the pumpkin t bits and discard the pieces.
