D.C. Fall Festival

I want to thank the many citizens of the County who worked to present the D.C. Fall Festival braving the wind and rain to contribute both their time and their funds to create a fun atmosphere for our county’s children.  We are only as good as the children we rear up for the next generation and it is up to all of us to make certain their lives are as fulfilled as they can be under these trying times.

First, I want to thank the Town of West Union for granting us the opportunity to have the fall festival for our children and supplying electric & cords.

I want to thank Jan Chapman, owner of Key Oil Company, for his generous donation, without which we could not have made it happen.

Our deepest thanks go to the following:

The EUMC for their donationof glassware for the dime pitch.

Francis Noll, owner of Nolls Hardware and Feed Store, who purchased and donated pumpkins and apples, as well as giving away free ice cream, and cotton candy for the day.

The Herald Record ran the advertisement on their front page free of charge for two weeks and provided a fine trailer for a stage.

The Doddridge Independent also ran an ad for us as well and we want to thank them so much.

Ramblin Rons, who gave away free popcorn and offered food service at her window, secured the music for the day and so much more.

The Country Store donated apples for us to dip in caramel. We wish them much success in their new store on Main St.

Summit Community Bank offered us the use of their Drive Thru Lot for a safe and secure Bicycle Rodeo managed by Jim and Rose Musgrave.  The equipment was supplied by North Bend Rail Trail Foundation, and we thank them for their assistance.

Eight bicycles were given away to some very happy kids by the Doddridge County EMS.  First Responders, Kris Barron (his help was so important), Joyce Bea, Mary Jan Shaffer made it happen and brought up ambulances so that the children could look at and ask questions about.

Fireman Josh Golden of the West Union Fire Dept. brought up one of their beautiful fire trucks for the children to see and learn the importance of our first responders.

Law Enforcement officers from the D.C. Sheriff’s Office and West Union Police Dept. attended and kept watch throughout the afternoon.  The crowd cheered for them to let them know how much they were appreciated and to allow the children to learn that these first responders are the ones they can always rely on to be there for them.  These are the good guys and gals.

Donnie Dotson and Slick’s Car Wash for displaying their race car for the children to enjoy, especially when he started the engine.  You should have seen the children’s faces… and the adults.

Oliver Araiza of WVGV 89.7 who advertised on his radio station for us and gave caramel apples and other gifts to the children with the kindest smile.

Our sincere thanks to Kara McCullough and Caleigh Ball who helped with the face painting for the children.  Stacy McCullough who helped with the Duck Pluck Pond and other places when needed.  Vera Carroll who donated many of the stuffed animals given away.

Miss Breanna Snyder of Clarksburg guessed 87 lbs. for the weight of the 87.6 oz pumpkin donated by Gilbert Neely and won $20.  She is the daughter of Melody Snyder and granddaughter of Karen Richards of Salem.

Pastor Gilbert & Judy Neely and family, Wayne Nicholson and Britton Gospel Mission Church members provided and served drinks, and caramel apples.  They were a great help.

I want to personally thank West Union Town Councilman, Jim Musgrave and his wife, Rose, and Historical Society members, Harlen and Sherri Harris, David and Kathleen Richards, Mary Schrock, Gilbert Neely for all they did. They helped set up, operate, tear down, and clean up.  They were most valuable and deserve our deepest thanks.

My deepest thanks to everyone.  If I have missed anyone, I’m most humbly sorry. Know that you were very much appreciated.
