Doddridge County Farm

Receives Century Farm Award

The West Fork Conservation District Board of Supervisors has recognized Corder Farms in Doddridge County as a Century Farm recipient. West Fork’s Board of Supervisors visited the Corder family at their farm on September 30th. They were greeted by the present owners, C. Lee and Sue Ann Corder, along with their son Joe, daughter-in-law Cheryl and grandson Colt. The Board presented them with an outdoor sign to display on the original 68 acres. The Corders’ have two sons, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. The farm is being operated by their son Joe and his family, including hay production and livestock management.

A Century Farm is one that has been actively farmed by the same family for at least 100 years. The West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts designed this program to raise awareness in the state regarding our rich agricultural heritage.  The Century Farm qualifications are as follows: The same family must have maintained ownership (title of land) for a minimum of 100 consecutive years, the farm must consist of at least ten acres of the original land holdings, the farm must gross at least $1000 annually from farm products, and a family member must live on the farm or be an integral part of the day-to-day operation of the farm enterprise.
