New Director at WVU Jackson’s Mill
WVU Extension Service has announced that David Snively has been appointed director of WVU Jackson’s Mill. The appointment is effective July 1, 2021.
Snively will oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, including budgeting, scheduling of events, and working collaboratively with WVU and WVU Extension Service to support local and state economic development opportunities.
Snively, who was named interim director of Jackson’s Mill in December 2020, has been instrumental in reimagining programming opportunities at the Mill. During the past six months, he has focused on developing a long-term strategic vision for the facility including expansion of programming opportunities for West Virginia youths and activities that meet the ever-changing needs of visitors and guests. He also has worked collaboratively with WVU Extension and WVU leadership to identify infrastructure needs to improve services offered to the community, youths and other visitors.
“I’ve been so impressed by Dave in his interim role with Jackson’s Mill, and I know that he is going to continue to bring innovative ideas to take advantage of opportunities we have available at the Mill,” WVU Extension Service Dean Jorge Atiles said. “This is a phenomenal facility with limitless potential, particularly for West Virginia youths. Under Dave’s leadership, I am confident he will help us unlock that potential so that we can meet the ever-changing needs of the diverse groups we serve.”
Snively, who also served as the Extension agent for Ritchie County, is passionate about creating a place where visitors of all ages can experience the rich history of the Mill, while also providing unique learning opportunities that provide young people with knowledge and skills that will make them successful.
“The Mill is a special place that has played an important role in the lives of so many over the past century,” Snively said. “I am looking forward to leading the team that will be working to position the Mill for the next 100 years.”
WVU Jackson’s Mill has become a true hub for youth activities, including camps, educational programming, outdoor recreation and other events. With support of loyal donors and partners, WVU Extension Service has been able to expand unique opportunities and experiences for our young people, including a new, state-of-the-art STEAM building, which opened its doors in June. Additionally, the WVU Jackson’s Mill staff has implemented educational programming tied to history, outdoor education and other unique activities to engage young people.
WVU Extension Service will begin a search to replace Snively in Ritchie County.
