Progress Being Made

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce would like to update you on the progress we have made and are continuing to make on the Renovation of the Salem Depot. As you know, there was a devastating fire in 2008.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce acquired the lease in 2013 and started fundraising to restore and save the Depot. The fire started in the freight room and went through the entire attic, so every rafter and board was scorched or burnt.

The new rafters and roof were $88,500 alone. Then the overhangs and gutters were an additional $22,500. The windows have been replaced, and we are working with the Prison woodworking class and they are building the new Man doors.

The recently completed ADA restrooms and a kitchenette was at the cost of $39,500. Now we are working on the interior, and are starting to feel better about the progress we’ve made.

Every dime that has been raised for the Depot has gone into it. So anytime you bought a dinner or a soup mix or a tee shirt, you were supporting the Depot. We thank you for that. We have had and continue to have fundraising projects, we have had numerous private donations, large and small. We partnered with The North Bend Rail to Trail Foundation, Inc., (NBRTF) which is a 501c3, so all funds sent there on behalf of the Salem Depot are tax deductible, but you must indicate Salem Depot in the memo.
