A Note for My Sister, Velma

I loved being able to sing and play music together.

You were amazing, one I loved so much.

I don’t think I can express in mere words all that you meant to me.

You were beautiful in more ways than you know, and you always will be.

We were born to be friends and I am glad we were family.

I could pour out my heart to you, trusting that you cared and accepted me as is. You were there any time, day or night, to list, advise, or lend a shoulder.

When we talked on the phone I would ways close by saying “I love you.”

You would always answer with words I can still hear verbatim,

   “I know you do.”

Now that you seem so far away, we will never truly part, for part of you lives on with me, forever in my heart.

Your sister,
Juanita Leggett
