Center Point Library

Dear Reader,

Libraries are more than books! When I started working at the Center Point Library I didn’t realize all of the creative and innovative ways our libraries are serving their communities. Aside from taking requests for books, DVD’s, color copies, scanning, faxing, notary services and programming, libraries serve as third places in our community. Your home is considered your first place, work or school is your second place, and most of us have third places as well – a place where we like to hang out; a place that (ideally) feels welcoming.  In Eric Klinenberg’s book, Palaces for the    People: How To Build a More Equal and United Society, he emphasizes the unique aspects that libraries possess to be remarkable third places for our diverse society today. No one is excluded from using their public library. Regardless of your age, ethnicity, economic status, belief system or political views, you are welcome in a library.

I have learned the priceless value of community through my library. I have had the honor of meeting so many neighbors with wonderfully rich and diverse backgrounds as well as benefited from their willingness to share their gifts, talents, and knowledge with myself and others. I miss my cookbook club, my crafters, my movie crowd, my fun loving CEOS and their spouses that take families on Hay Rides in the fall, I miss seeing my neighbors come together to pass candy out to hundreds of kiddos at Trunk-or-Treat. COVID-19 has impacted all of us. Some more than others. Our community is like family and we are here to serve you in any possible way that we can. Do not think that libraries are just for books. They are so much more.
