Gordon Edgell Named Doddridge County Citizen of the Year

 

Beginning in 2006, the Doddridge County Citizen of the Year committee was established and upon receiving many nominations, John Craddock was chosen as the first Doddridge County Citizen of the year. 

   Following COVID the restrictions in place, the DC Citizen of the Year Committee met these past few months to review and to choose the Citizen of the year. 

    On October 29th,2020, instead of holding a community celebration dinner, the Committee held a dinner at Jackie’s Home Cooking, to announce the 2020 Doddridge County Citizen of the Year winner to be Gordon Edgell of the Big Flint area in Doddridge County. 

   Committee member, Bob Currey spoke to the difference in this year’s Award’s Ceremony, noting that 22 people were in attendance of the COVID allowed 25. 

   He introduced Mr. Edgell and told of his contributions to the Doddridge County, mostly for the students in FFA and 4-H programs. Mr. Currey told of the untold hours that Mr. Edgell has spent in assisting with the Ham, Eggs and Bacon shows recalling a time when Mr. Edgell spent $4,000 on a dozen eggs; how he has worked in other areas with the students. He was presented with a rocking chair by the Committee.

 Mr. Adam Cheeseman, Doddridge County Superintendent of Schools  awarded Mr. Edgell with a plaque for his life time service to the children    of Doddridge County.Mr. Edgell, who owns and operates a sawmill thanked the Committee and noted he began by supporting his own children in 4-H and FFA. He noted he had been blessed to be able to help a lot of kids along the way.  He said he has a lot of memories and will continue supporting the kids because he feels they are the future                 and need the support. His wife, Kerry and two children, Stephanie and Troy along with their spouses and children were also in attendance.
