Region II Championships – or…the LetUsRun Invitational…

Never have I felt more blessed on the way to a meet.  The girls shook off the rust and the heat to take the win by 13 points over Tucker County.  It was pretty obvious that we hadn’t gotten to race since October 3rd, and that we hadn’t dealt with heat in a while.  I also made the mistake of telling the girls not to be super-aggressive in the 1st mile.  I think this prevented some of them from ever getting into “race” mode, and we somewhat ended up doing a 3 mile tempo run.  We’ll need to find that A-Game next week.  Alexis Lamb had a really strong race, taking the individual title by 55 seconds in 20:45.  She really pulled away in the 2nd half of the race.  Maria Bee scored a 3rd place finish with a 21:53.  Emily Gola picked up a 7th in 22:42.  Hailey Keith was 9th in 23:40.  She got stuck in no-man’s land for much of the race, finishing with no one within 30 seconds of her in either direction.  These 4 were individual qualifiers for the State Meet.  Nora Sias worked her way up to 13th in 26:17.  Jocelyn Atkinson had a solid run for 15th in 27:00.  Audrey Smith continued to battle through pain for a 22nd place finish in 29:24.  Congratulations ladies.

Region II – Championships – Boys –

The boys take the Regional Title as well with a nice, low score of 19, 34 points better than 2nd place Notre Dame.  Rust showed on the boys side as well, but I think this was a better showing than the girls.  Carter Lipscomb continued his undefeated season with a 16:21, taking this win by 1:27.  Trent Gola gets the runner-up spot, winning a kick to the finish for the spot in 17:48.  Brennan Miller grabs 5th in 18:45.  William Atkinson gets 7th in 19:12.  Those aren’t bad, but we’ll need to be a lot better if we want to stand on that podium individually next week.  Joshua Berke had a rough outing, but still got 13th in 21:17.  Logan Currey picked up a 30th in 26:52.  As with the girls, enjoy the win, but be ready to step it up a level over the next week.  The ultimate goals still stand before you.
