Meal Site Program Awarded to DC Senior Citizens

The Doddridge County Senior Citizens, Inc. located at 417 West Main Street, West Union is excited to announce that the Senior Citizen was awarded the State III-C Nutrition Meal Site Program for FY-2021, starting October 1, 2020, serving Doddridge County Seniors.

This is a major milestone for our organization.

This is the first time in our 49 years of operation that we have had this opportunity to serve meals to our senior population. In years past this program was provided by an agency located in another county.

At this time we would like to thank them for their hard work, commitment serving our county to the best of their ability.

With the COVID-19 Pandemic still taking its course as of August 15, 2020 all dinners, meetings, social events and Family Gatherings that were previously booked at the center after regular work hours and weekends have been canceled through December 31, 2020.

This was mandated by the State of West Virginia which takes in all 55 county senior centers. This also included our meal program where we would serve our hot sit down (Dining Room) meal at noon, Monday thru Friday at our center.

We now are required to meet our seniors with their meals in the parking lot/curb side known to many as a grab and go meal.

We are currently doing our home delivered meal route.

The only consolation with this pandemic is it has given us time to remodel, clean, install alot of new equipment, update our kitchen with new lighting and ceilings, new fire alarm system to comply with the state fire Marshall and Doddridge County Health Department standards/ Regulations.

We only wish that our new Doddridge County Nutrition Program to serve our seniors could have started of with a Big Grand Opening to show case our newly remodeled dining Room/ kitchen, unfortunately with the current crisis this is not possible at this time.

We also would like to take this time to thank individuals for their patience and understanding as we make this transition. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at 304-873-2061.

Thank you
