September 23, 2020 — Taylor  Relays

Taylor Relays, I do have some info – MS Girls take the win by 1:18 over Williamstown.  The MS Boys do them one better by taking the win by 1:20, also over Williamstown. Oh…and we also took 1st and 3rd in the coed division.  Individually, Catherine Cottrill has the 2nd fastest time on the day in 11:25 (also faster than any of the HS splits), which is 13 seconds faster than last year.  Bailey Holden is 4th in 12:00, 59 seconds better than last year (and faster than a HS All-State performer from last year).  Cassie Cumberledge is 7th in 12:39, just off her time from last year and within 2 seconds of the splits ran by a pair of girls who are currently ranked in the top 10 in Class A at the HS level.  Payton Trent is 8th in 12:54.  Marley Sias is 9th in 12:58.  Payton Currey is 11th in 13:10.  Aleigh Cheeseman is 29th in 17:44.  For the Boys Trey McDonough has the top time in the field at 11:12, a strong 25 seconds faster than last year.  Corey Swentzel steps up and gets 4th in 11:33, which is faster than Trey’s run last year.  Carter Sias comes in at #5 in 11:38, which is a full 1:30 better than last year and within 1 second of what Trey ran last year.  Jerod Trent is 7th in 11:52, which would have put him in our #2 spot last year.  Luke Rokisky is 9th in 12:38…a whopping 2:39 better than last year.  Isaac Johnson takes the 12th position in 12:46 with Noah Bodkin in 13th in 12:47.  Alex Johnson is 18th in 13:07, putting those 3 ahead of Carter Sias’ time from last year.  Samuel Gola is 25th in 14:05.

Ripley Covered Bridge Invitational

MS Girls make it a clean sweep, getting the win by 36 over Williamstown.  Catherine Cottrill scores a 3rd place finish in 12:11, just getting nipped at the line for 2nd.  Bailey Holden has another strong race, getting 4th in 12:36.  Marley Sias has a breakthrough race, getting 8th in 13:30.  Payton Trent gets 13th in 13:49.  Payton Currey steps up into the 5th

spot, getting 16th in 14:16.  Cassidy Cumberledge battled illness to a 20th place finish in 14:31.  Aleigh Cheeseman gets 48th in 19:54.

MS Boys take yet another win, squeezing out a 7 point victory over Williamstown.  This is the 2nd straight week getting the win while being short-handed.  Trey McDonough again leads they way in 5th in 11:50.  Cory Swentzel with the strong run for 9th in 12:16, just ahead of Carter Sias in 10th in 12:18.  Luke Rokisky made a big move over the last 600 meters to catch and pass a competitor from Williamstown for 11th in 12:35.  Noah Bodkin steps up to be the #5 man on the day, getting 15th in 13:14.  Isaac Johnson gets 26th in 13:52.  Samuel Gola has far and away his best run of the year getting 28th in 13:55.  Alex Johnson gets 35th in 14:31.

HS Girls pick up 5th place in a loaded field, falling to Class A #1 Williamstown, Class AAA #3 Ripley, Class AAA #5 Woodrow Wilson,  and Class AA #2 Wayne and knocking off Class AAA #4 Preston and Class AAA #6 Cabell Midland.  Ladies…don’t let the fact that we aren’t winning meets make you think we’re not good.  Look at who we’re competing against, who we’re close to, and who we’re beating.  You ARE good.  And getting better.  Alexis Lamb has a blowout race for 3rd place in 20:13, just 3 seconds behind last year’s State Runner-Up (who was the champion the prior year).  She was her shadow for most of the race.  Simply an excellent performance.  Maria Bee scores a 17th place finish in 22:01 overcoming a fall and not being completely healthy.  Emily Gola battles to a 20th place finish in 22:25 as she works her way back toward last year’s form.  Hailey Keith gets 31st in 23:18.  Nora Sias gets 62nd in 26:12.  Cloe Tallman gets 71st in 27:48 (and I believe adds yet another PR in the mile along the way).  Gabby Gogan subs into the varsity spot for Jocelyn Atkinson who missed the meet with illness and gets 78th in 31:12.  Lacey Shepherd gets 18th in the JV Race in 29:27, a nice step forward for her.  She was the pacing champion on the girls side of the ledger for us as she held pace better over the 2nd half of the race better than anyone else on the team.  Lexie’s time was only 30 seconds slower than what she ran on the pancake flat course last week.  Emily was only 1:26 off last week, and Lacey was only off 1:29.

HS Boys take 3rd place behind AAA #2 Cabell Midland and AAA #6 Woodrow Wilson.  Carter Lipscomb remains undefeated, taking the win in 16:16, a mere 24 seconds ahead of 2nd place.  Trent Gola with the strong effort for 8th place overall in 17:36 making a late pass on a runner from Preston who has beaten him on a couple occasions this season.  Brennan Miller gets 17th in 18:11.  William Atkinson continued his resurgence with a 23rd place finish in 18:56.  Joshua Berke gets 48th in 20:16.  Kaden Smith gets 72nd in 24:27.  Logan Currey gets 74th in 26:36.  James Berke gets 43rd in the JV race in 27:53.  This is the first time the High School has ever ran at this course, so there isn’t really a frame of reference for times.  I can tell you that there was some consistency compared to last week.  Carter was 1:13 slower, Brennan was 1:07 slower, Will was 1:12 slower.  Josh was 1:18 slower.  This was a much more difficult course, so noting that they’re slower isn’t a bad thing…I just thought the reasonable amount of consistency from those four was interesting.  Trent was only 54 seconds slower.
