Charles Robert Underwood I, 75 of Salem departed this life on Friday, August 14, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 11, 1944 at Deming, NM, a son of the late Forrest and Mary Rebecca Cain Underwood. On September 21, 1966 he married Vivian Jane Ballah Underwood who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter Charla Owens (Michael) Salem, one son, Charles Robert Underwood II (Leslie), Salem, grandchildren, Dillon Cole Underwood (Stephanie) Clarksburg, Ciera Brady (Jonathan) Clarksburg, Michael Owens Jr. (Fallon), Lumberport, Cheyenne Clark (Andrew) Salem, great grandchildren, Adalynn, Elaina and Mila Owens, Layla and Caroline Brady, one great granddaughter that will arrive in November. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Madison Hope Underwood.
Mr. Underwood was a graduate of Salem High School and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Salem College. He retired from Allegheny Power where he worked as a Lineman for 25 years and finished his career as a Service Man for 10 years. Charles was a member of West Union Christian Church, a former member of the West Union Lions Club. Charles served as Scout Master of Troop #34, Salem Order of the Arrow and was a member of Salem Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed ceramics, hunting, camping and most of all spending time with his family.
Funeral services were conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Plaugher presiding. Interment followed in the Center Point Cemetery. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday, August 17, 2020 from 4-8 p.m. During visitation and funeral services social distancing were practiced and mask were required.
