Letter To Editor — Thank-you

Thank-you

Dear Editor of The Herald Record:

Thanks very much for publishing the article about the first year of participation by Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery Inc. in the Give Local MOV day of giving on May 5.  We were overwhelmed by the response we received on May 5, and would like to thank you for providing some needed publicity about our efforts.  We would also like to thank the people who donated to our organization that day, some of whom heard of our effort by reading the article.

The attached letter from our President, Jerry Watson, expresses those thanks.  We hope you will consider this letter for publication in the next issue of The Herald Record.

Thanks,

Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery’s First

Year Participation in May 5 Give Local MOV

Dear Editor:

Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery Inc. made its debut in the 7th annual “Give Local MOV” day of giving held on May 5.  The results greatly exceeded our expectations — with donations amounting to $6,439 from 29 supporters (including 17 first-time donors), plus $2,500 in matches from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and two generous Challenge Match supporters, for a total of $8,939 going to the fund to provide for the long-term care and maintenance of the Auburn Community Cemetery.

Total giving to the 54 organizations that participated in “Give Local MOV” was over $470,000, from more than 1500 people, and was up 25% over last year’s results!

On behalf of our Board of Directors (Lorna “Happy” Garrison Benton, Darwin Drain, Dwight Goff, Shelia Sommerville Scadden, Bob Sommerville and myself), I extend our thanks to all who donated. This is a very nice “boost” to our effort to generate a $100,000 Fund to provide support for the Cemetery’s preservation beyond our lifetimes.

Sincerely,

Jerry L. Watson

Jerry L. Watson, President
