WAYLAND L. WILLIAMS

  Wayland L. Williams, 85, of Marietta passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on April 17, 2020 after an illness of lung cancer.

   He was born on September 22, 1934 in Doddridge County, WV., the son of the late Bertie and Zelma Weekley Williams.

   Wayland was an active member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Belpre where he served as an Elder. He retired from Eramet Metals after thirty-five years of employment. After retirement, he was employed by Leavitt Funeral Home, for several years. He was a member of the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department in which he held many positions including fire chief. He had served as a Warren Township Trustee.

   Wayland is survived by his wife of eight years, Nancy Williams; one daughter Theresa (David) Sayger; two sons, Joseph Williams and Michael (Lori) Williams, all of Marietta; foster daughter, Susan Lemon; five grandchildren, Rachel (Matthew) Boyd, Jessica (Adam) White, Jacqueline (Nathan) Steele, Jason Heckert and Jezirae Williams; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler and Luke Steele, Mackenzie, Kaylea and Joel Boyd, Stryker and JoZee Hadfield, and Aiden, Zoe and Quentin White; sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams and Carolyn (Jim) Westbrook and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three stepdaughters, Pam Spring (Gretchen), Paula (Butch) Hixenbaugh and Cinda Graham along with several step-grandchildren.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Eldora Williams; two brothers; two sisters and one daughter Charlotte Williams, who died at birth. 

   A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

   While visitation is not permitted at this time due to the coronavirus, the family would like to invite family and friends to gather in the parking lot at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre on Monday at 2:45 P.M., stay in their cars and follow the family in procession to the Tunnel Cemetery.

   A memorial service will be held at a later date.
