Mary Lou (Seese) Bates “Aunt Mert”, 86, of Center Point Community went to her eternal home on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born December 14, 1937 in Center Point, Doddridge County, daughter of the late Ora Day and Nancy Gaye Cottrill Seese. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband William Lewis Bates on November 16, 2013.
Mary Lou graduated from Doddridge County High School, Class of 1956. She worked as a school cook for many years in Doddridge County and was known for the excellent lunches. She was a member of the Salem Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star and the Pleasant Baptist Church in Center Point. Mary Lou enjoyed doing search a word, reading the paper, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and talking on the phone to her family and many friends.
Mary Lou is survived by two daughters, Katherine “Kala” Bates and Joyce Bates, both of Center Point; three grandchildren, James “Jamie” Marple and wife Becky; Center Point, Angie Selby and husband Joey, Colorado; and Scotty Dryden, Center Point; four great grandchildren, Gunner, Nikolas, Elijah and Norah; one sister, Guilda Ash, Sedalia; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was preceded in death by brothers, Ora D. Seese, Jr, Roy “Putt” Seese, Jack Seese, Conard Seese, and infant, Clarice Ralph Seese; sisters, Audra White, Phyllis “Fidge” White, Iris Stone, and Joann Gaston.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home – Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 3-7PM and on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon with Rev Chad Ash officiating.
