Anna “Maxine” McDiffitt Mason
Anna “Maxine” McDiffitt Mason, 89, of Salem, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023, at her residence. Anna was born August 13, 1934, in Glover Gap, WV, daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Brewer McDiffitt.
Maxine was a registered Nurse over 40 years at several medical facilities as well as an educator in nursing. She was an active devoted member of Salem Baptist Church for over 50 plus years and she especially enjoyed going to bible study and spending time with her church family. She was involved in local government as a council woman, committee to beautify the city of Salem. She was also a member of the Salem Garden Club, and den mother for local cub scouts. Maxine enjoyed sports, especially the WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Her hobbies were going to the family cabin, hiking, and picking flowers with the grandchildren, spending time at Canaan Valley (Mamaws on the Mountain) and spending the winter in St. Augustine, FL.
Maxine is survived by her three sons, Dr. Thomas “Tommy” G Mason II (Tina), Rochester, MN, Jefferson “Jeff” Mason (Tammey), Salem, Timothy “Tim” Mason (Mary), Parrish, FL; eight grandchildren, Dr. Erin Alexander (Matt), Courtney Powers (Tadd), Matthew Mason (Kelsey), Marie Mason-Wickline (Ty), Katie Thibeault (Evan), Jimmy Mason, Ryan Mason, and Kelly Mason; six great grandchildren, Henry, Wesley, Ada, Andi, Sydney, and Quinley; one sister, Catherine Priester; brother-in-law, David Mason (Donna); several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas “Tom” G Mason on February 18, 2015; one sister, Lillian McDiffit; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jake Mason (Laura), Doris Grebowski (Doris) and Deloris Love.
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home Salem, 1999 W. Main St., Salem, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 2-8 pm and on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 11:00 am until time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Roger Fontaine officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Salem Baptist Church, PO Box 43, Salem, WV 26426.
