Sentenced

On March 10th, Judge Thomas Bedell, appointed as Special Judge, called Court to order to act on the agreement of a guilty plea  of Ronald Lee Travis stemming from felony offense of Embezzlement of $1270. from NAPA/Amtower, his place of employment.

At an earlier hearing a Plea Agreement had been submitted by his Attorney, William Forbes, with the request of Deferred Judgment.

After the charges were noted, Michael Parker, Special Prosecutor, refused his chance to speak, Forbes spoke noting that Travis wasn’t a career criminal, Travis made a statement apologizing to the Courts, Mr. Amtower read a letter concerning his losses.

His letter noted that $1270. was the amount that they were able to come up as being missing and he indicated that NAPA/Amtower does not keep inventory as other businesses normally does.

Judge Bedell noted prior to passing judgment that Travis: was over the age of a career criminal, did not have a criminal record, no issues with supervision, no substance abuse, has sown remorse, has health issues, and the public was not in danger from him.

He also noted that letters of support had been submitted noting Travis’ past work within the community.

With that said, Bedell went on to deffer the judgment of the Felony Count for Embezzlement  and  place Travis 2 years of supervised probation under the Harrison County Probation Office, and at the end of the two years, if he has will be free of this Felony County of Embezzlement.

During probation Travis will be limited to to a long list of what he can and can’t do such as he is allowed to leave the State with the Probation Officer’s approval, not alowed to be using drugs or drinking alcholic beverages, continue his helath appointments, and violate any laws.

He is required to do 40 Hours of Community Service within the first six months of his Probation, pay the $1270. back to the store owners and pay the cost of the proceedings.

If he makes it through the 2 years of Probation without violations, the guilty plea will be erased but if he does break probation, he will return to Court and face the terms set for Felony Count of Embezzlement.
