Caleb Lewis Moore, 27, went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2023 surrounded by his family in Martinsburg, WV. The son of Dwight and Tina Moore, Caleb was raised in Doddridge County, WV on his parents’ farm. It was there he learned the skills that lead him to be an avid outdoorsman. He was fond of being in the wild, with a particular interest in fly fishing and camping. He was a gifted athlete, excelling in track and cross country.  In his sophomore, junior and senior years of high school, the Bulldog track team won state championships. Caleb was the individual state runner-up in cross country his senior year. Upon graduation in 2013, Caleb accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated from the Academy in 2017 as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the 1st Marine Division G2. Before his medical discharge from the Marine Corps, Caleb rose to the rank of Captain.

His was a life of the mind as well as of the heart. He was as happy discussing nuances in military theory as he was opining on the latest Batman film. He was as adept drafting intelligence assessments on China’s expanding expeditionary warfare capabilities as he was at exploring Etsy for the absolute perfect gift for his wife. He was as comfortable serving as a fill-in aide-to-camp to the Commander of US Forces Korea as he was befriending, advocating for, and mentoring subordinates. Before his illness, he had considered a career in the CIA – a place he had toured multiple times while at the Naval Academy, and a job in which he would have excelled. Caleb benefitted from so many gifts, except the gift of time.

In addition to his parents, Caleb is survived by his wife, Renata and their three dogs, Luci, Bel, and Buddy; three sisters: Andrea McCue and husband, Jamin of Columbus, OH, Rayme Pullen and husband, Trevor of Salem, WV, Salena Loizos and husband, Justin of Martinsburg, WV; three nephews and one niece: Benjamin, Ezra, Theodore, and Tess.

The family would like to acknowledge and give special appreciation to the love of Caleb’s life, his wife Renata. She has been his constant companion and caretaker during his prolonged illness. Renata’s love, faithfulness and diligence in caring for Caleb has been beyond compare, and we cannot adequately express our gratitude.

A Celebration of Remembrance may be held at a later time. Thank you for your love and prayers which have been abundant.

In lieu of Cards and Flowers, the family requests that we donate to help with ALS Research and Advocacy.
