Teresa “Terri” Burnside Shriver left this earthly realm on January 31, 2023, due to complications from a lengthy illness. Terri passed away with her loving family by her side. She was 62 years old.
It would be wrong to say that Terri lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting. Terri stayed strong. She was truly an inspiration to all those around her. Her smile and faith were an inspiration. The fight was not lost, instead she gained her eternal reward.
Terri’s passion was teaching. She enjoyed hearing from former students who said her anatomy class prepared them for a career in a health profession. Having a teacher’s heart, she also enjoyed teaching Bible lessons to her Sunday school classes. The number of souls she touched stretches beyond her understanding.
She will be affectionately remembered by her loving family and husband, Dr. Donald L. Shriver. They were married on July 3, 1982. The couple was lovingly blessed with one child Matthew David Shriver (companion, Kaitlyn Dyer), Clarksburg. An extremely close family, she is survived by her brothers Edwin A. Burnside, Stonewood, and Michael Burnside (Heather), Clarksburg. One sister Debra Yeomans (Danny), Madison. Nephews Jason Burnside (Kayla), Lumberport, and Christian Burnside, Clarksburg. Nieces Kerri Morehouse (Jon), Bridgeport, and Ciara Chambers (Drew), Madison. The great nephews, Colten Chambers and Beau Burnside and two great nieces, Blaire Burnside, and Karalynn Chambers.
A life long student, her education began at Liberty High School with graduation in1978. Her passion for serving led her to Salem College, graduating Cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, 1982. While in college, she was a member of Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity. Furthering her teaching education, completed a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction-Salem College, 1986.
Teaching was a calling of service and not a just a job. She practiced her profession as a biology science teacher. In Taylor County Schools (Flemington High School and Taylor County Middle School) and Harrison County Schools (Liberty High School). Demonstrating she was versatile, worked several years as a Management Analyst for the FBI.
Terri filled her home with warmth and kindness for her family. She regarded family as a gift of enjoyment from God. Hosting family dinners and holiday celebrations was a privilege for her. She enjoyed her church family have grown up in church singing southern gospel music with her cousins. An active member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Salem, having served as church clerk, Sunday School teacher, choir member, was a member of the group Lighthouse Ladies Trio, played the church piano, and was the registrar of Mountaineer Baptist College.
