Christina Royer Casey 
Nelson

 Christina Royer Casey Nelson 73 of Salem died Saturday, Jan 21, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a long period of failing health.

Born August 17, 1949, in Clarksburg, she was the daughter of Christof W. Royer and Virginia Summers Royer. Christina was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Robert Michael Nelson, and half-brother Robert Bailey, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Christy Howell (Tony), of Salem and four grandchildren: Casey May Smith (Dustin), of Florida, Chase Howell (Wylie), of Bridgeport, Chance Howell and Caitlynne Howell of Salem.  She is also survived by her brother David Royer (Berta) of Panama, Gina Williams (Mike) of San Antonio, TX, and Ludina Mills (Gary) of N. Ridgeville, OH., one great-granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and cousins.            

Christina graduated from Salem High School and Salem College with a degree in Library Science. 

    Christina loved playing the piano especially church and classical music.  She played piano and organ music for her church of worship, Church of God, (7th Day), the Methodist Church in Salem, and was the choir director and organist for a Church in Ocracoke Island, NC. 

Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandchildren, family and friends.  She also enjoyed working with her hands and doing crafts.  Christina made porcelain dolls and clothes, needle work and making pillows. She took classes in basket making, cake and candy making, flower arranging and making beautiful bows.  Christina also did wedding receptions with beautiful fruit displays and was a wonderful baker.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home – Salem, 1999 W. Main Street, Salem, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 4-7pm and on Friday, January 27, 2022, from 12:00 Noon until time of the Funeral Service at 3:00pm with Pastor Gary Mills officiating. 

Reception will be immediately following the funeral service at the Erickson Center, Salem University for family, friends and all her health care workers, that through the years showed her love, compassion, and care. 

The family would like to thank the following health care services: DaVita dialysis center, Harrison County Senior Bus Transit, WVU Home Health Care, Renaissance Care, and Debbie Black. Interment will be at a later time at a family plot, at the K of P cemetery in Salem, WV.
