Jesus Christ: God’s Greatest Gift

Albert Farley

Every good and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights!  James 1:17.  God made the world and everything in it.  He has given all of us life, breath, and all things.  In Him we live, move, and have our being; we are His offspring.  Acts 17:24-28. Today, the only way we can find God is by faith in Jesus Christ!  Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”  Mark 16:15, 16.  We walk by faith, and faith comes by hearing the Word of God. 2 Corinthians 5:7; Romans 10:17.

Have you received the greatest gift God has offered to you?

Jesus was Promised by God.  Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, Isaiah said, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel [God with-Us].”  Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23.

Jesus was Born When the Time Was Perfect.  “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.”  Galatians 4:4

Jesus was the Gift of God’s Love.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”  John 3:16, 17.

Jesus Came to Seek the Lost.  Luke 19:10.  We were in the bondage of sin and could do nothing to save ourselves.  By God’s wonderful grace, Jesus came to freely shed His blood to atone for our sins!  Romans 3:23, 24.

Jesus Gave Himself Freely.  “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.  As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.  And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.  Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.  No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.  I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.” John 10:11-18

Jesus Came to Offer All of Us Eternal Life.  “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  John 10:10.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:23.

Jesus’ Greatest Gift Is Conditional.  We must receive Him. John 1:11,12.  We must be born again – of water and the Spirit!  John 3:3-5.  We must believe in Him, repent of our sins, confess Him before others, and be baptized for the remission of our sins.  Matthew 10:32, 33; Mark 16:15, 16; Luke 13:3, 5; John 8:24; Acts 2:38.  We must obey Him.  Hebrews 5:8, 9.  We must be faithful until death.  Revelation 2:10.  We must do His commandments.  Revelation 22:14.

Yes, the greatest gift God has given to us is the gift of His Only Begotten Son.  Remember, His gift is conditional.  We must deny ungodliness and worldly lust.  We must live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.  Titus 2:11-13.

Finally, when we have done all those things we are commanded, “We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.”  Luke 17:10.
