GOD HAS SPOKEN

Albert Farley

In a confused world of mixed voices and strange messages, it is reassuring to read Hebrews 11:1, 2:  “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.”  Thank God He has spoken!  His words will determine whether we will be saved or lost eternally.

God spoke in Old Testament times on many different occasions in many different ways.  From Genesis to Malachi, over several thousands of years, He spoke “bit-by-bit” to the fathers by the prophets in dreams, visions, voices, angels, psalms, proverbs, etc.

Today, in these last days, God has spoken to us by His Son Jesus Christ!  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth … For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”  John 1:1-18.

Only Jesus has the Words of Life.  In Matthew 17, when Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus, speaking of His coming death, Peter said, “… if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”  A cloud overshadowed them and God said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  Hear Him!”  When the cloud left, they saw Jesus only.  The Law and the prophets prepared for Christ. Galatians 4:4-6, 24,25.

The words of Jesus Christ are recorded in the 27 books of His New Testament.  This is His “Last Will and Testament.”  He said, “… the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”  John 6:63.  He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness.  2 Peter 1:3,4.   Through our obedience to these words, we are given great and precious

16:15-16;

The Will of God in Christ Jesus is revealed and recorded in the pages of Christ’s New Testament and was completed in the first century.  Jude exhorted the church to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all time delivered to the saints!  Jude 3.  All claims of “latter day revelations” after the book of Revelation was written must be rejected.  All who would add to or take from the New Testament of Christ are accursed of God.  Galatians 1:6-10; Revelation 22:18, 19.

When Jesus spoke words that required faith and total commitment, many of His disciples left Him.  John 6.  He then asked His apostles, “Do you also want to go away?”  Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.  Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  68, 69.

The Words of Christ will judge all of us in the last day.  He said, “He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.  For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.  And I know that His command is everlasting life.”  John 12:48-50.

What will we do with Jesus?  Receive with meekness and obey His implanted Word which is able to save our souls!  James 1:21, 22.
