Does my child have an opportunity to complete college courses at DCHS?

Doddridge County Board of Education/Doddridge County High School has partnered with West Virginia University Parkersburg, Fairmont State University, Glenville State, Alderson Broaddus University, Pierpont Community and Technical College and Salem University.  These classes are free to students and gives them an opportunity to be challenged in high school, while earning college credits.    

Have our students been active in these programs?

·       Doddridge County High School student’s curriculum involves 145 sections of AP/Dual Credit courses first semester and 160 sections second semester. 

Could my child be mentored by a local business?

·       24 students are enrolled in work-based study with local employers/business

If my child does not plan to go to college and does not want to go to the United Technical Center, what other opportunities are available in the school system to prepare them for a career?

DCHS has 7 career and technical education programs on our campus.

·       Prostart (Culinary Arts & Restaurant management) has 22 students in the program first semester and 16 scheduled for second semester. 

·       Business has 63 students in the program first semester and 69 scheduled for second semester.

·       Engineering has 10 students in the program first semester and 10 scheduled for second semester.  

·       STEM has 35 students in the program for first semester and 29 scheduled for second semester.

·       HVAC/Plumbing has 19 students in the program first semester and 12 scheduled for the second semester.

·       Diesel has 32 students in the program first semester and 20 scheduled for second semester.

·       Agriculture has 75 students in the program first semester and 76 scheduled for second semester.  

What is United Technical Center and does my child have an opportunity to go to that education facility?

·       Doddridge County, Harrison County, and Taylor County have been in partnership for several years to offer students additional opportunities in the careers.  A representative from each Board of Education and the superintendent makes up the governing body.  

·       Doddridge County High School has 21 students attending UTC this year and we also have at least one student in every program they offer.

·       UTC offers programs in Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Collision Repair, Computer Systems, Cosmetology, Electrical, Health Occupations, Law Enforcement, Masonry, Medical Assisting, Power Sports Repair and Welding  

Can students from Doddridge get an associate degree while still in high school?

·       DCHS students will have the ability to obtain an associate’s degree prior to graduation from Glenville State University.  This program involves a 60-hour program. (39 required classroom, 9 hours of emphasis and 12 hours of electives)
