Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke the above words in John 8:31, 32: “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

There seems to be a growing trend among some who may consider themselves to be sophisticated that we cannot be sure or certain about anything.  A college professor, the head of the Science Department at his school, once said to me and my brother, “We cannot know anything for certain.”  We quoted the above verse to him.

Knowledge!  Of course, our individual store of knowledge is limited and varies in all of us, individually, through the course of aging, studies, experiences, etc.  What can we absolutely know for certain?  Notice:

We Can Know the Truth.  Jesus said so in the scripture above.  When He was before Pontus Pilate, Jesus said, “… for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.”  He also told us what truth is.  In His prayer for His followers, He prayed, “Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth.”  John 17:17

We Can Know the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.  When Jesus’ disciples asked Him why He spoke in parables, He replied, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.”  Matthew 13:11.

We Can Know What We Worship.  Speaking to the Samaritan woman, Jesus said, “You worship what you do not know, we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews … God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”  John 4:22-26.

We Can Know the Good Shepherd.  In John 10:14, Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd; and I know my sheep, and am known by My own.”

We Can Know the Father Is In Jesus.  “If I do not the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.”  John 10:37 38.

We Can Know Where Jesus Went.  “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again

and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.  And where I go you know, and the way you know.  Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’  Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No man comes to the Father except through Me.”  John 14:1-6.  We know the Father’s house is in heaven.  Matthew 6:9.

We Can Know That We Know Him.  “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.  He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”  1 John 2:3, 4.

Dear friends, not only can we know the above things, we Must know them!  Do you know the truth?  Do you know the Lord?  Do you know you are a child of God with the hope of eternal life by keeping His commandments through faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and faithfulness in His church?  Acts 2:47; Revelation 22:14.  If we do not know Him on the Judgment Day, He will say to us, “I do not know you.”  Matthew 25:12.  Paul said, “… for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”  2 Timothy 1:12.
