Op-Ed

From the Desk of David B. McKinley, PE Week of Nov 28 – Dec 4, 2021

The House of Representatives was back in session this week after its Thanksgiving break and it was a busy one.

On Wednesday, as the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments that could impact abortions under Roe v. Wade, and I spoke on the House floor alongside House Conservatives about the importance of protecting and being the voice of unborn children and the value of human life. Watch my remarks.

In the Energy and Commerce Committee, we held hearings on two important issues facing this country.

The failure of social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, to prevent sales of illegal, deadly drugs to children. I’ve proposed two bills to ensure these platforms are held accountable for the protection of our kids online. Legislation & Drug Act remarks.

As fentanyl and opioid related overdose deaths topped 100,000 in one year, we must make combatting this crisis a priority. Ensuring adequate penalties are in place for crimes involving fentanyl and related substances is one of the ways we can address this problem.

The Biden Administration’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate was in the news this week as yet another court stopped this overreach. I oppose the Covid-19 vaccine mandate and have supported efforts to repeal it, Pres- ident Biden’s mandate is inconsistent and does not apply to individuals receiving federal benefits, like welfare recipients or illegal immigrants apprehended at the border.

We also proudly nominated five outstanding students from West Virginia’s First District for U.S. Military Academies and we wish them the very best as they submit their applications for these prestigious institutions.

Thank you & God Bless, Rep. David B. McKinley, P.E.
