Genevieve “Genny” Spessert, (nee Hinter)

20 April 1934 – 6 November 2021

Genevieve “Genny” Spessert, (nee Hinter) passed away from natural causes on 6 November 2021.  She was born April 20th, 1934, in the small town of Leopold in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the second daughter of John and Fluence (Spurgeon) Hinter. As a farmer’s daughter, she actively engaged in 4H and was a state 4H representative at their National Convention where she met President Eisenhower.  Genny attended Glenville State College where she majored in social studies and home economics, sang in the college choir and lettered in basketball and softball.  The daughter of one of the first college educated female teachers in West Virginia she followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a high school teacher.

Genny married Daren Lane Spessert, a young Air Force Lieutenant in 1956. As an Air Force wife, Genny moved to California, various cities in Ohio, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, finally ending up in northern Virginia.  She continued teaching until she was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis in 1973.  Genny refused to let MS define her and lived life to the fullest.  She was active in church, her community, civic organizations and loved organizing socials.  She later went on to sell real estate.  Both Genny and Daren served God and country, believed in service before self, and valued education and the constant need to better themselves and their community.    

Daren rose to become a Colonel in the Air Force and they retired from the US Air Force in 1986, eventually moving to San Antonio, TX.  After retirement they loved to spend time with their grandchildren and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas, visiting Israel, Germany, England, France and Norway. Daren died in 2012; they had been married 56 years.

She is survived by her son LTC Robert Spessert, US Army retired and wife Cheryl; daughter Joyce and her husband Maj Gen James Poss, USAF retired; grandchildren Lauren Poss, Molly (Spessert) John, Brent Poss, Emily Spessert, Ethan Spessert and Andrew Poss. She is also survived by her sister Glenda (Hinter) Himes; her sisters-in-law Winona (Spessert) Rinehart and Eloise (Spessert) Kissinger, and brothers-in-law Douglas Spessert and Warren Spessert.

Sherry Denise Pritt

Sherry Denise Pritt, 58, of West Union, WV, departed this life Sunday, November 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Sherry was born December 14, 1962, in Clarksburg, WV, a daughter of the late Elden S. and Nellie M. (Valentine) Greathouse.

Sherry went to Middle Island School and graduated from Doddridge County High School. She then went to work as an office manager for the Doddridge County Solid Waste Authority.  She enjoyed attending the Blandville United Methodist Church for many years. Sherry loved working on crafts, creating beautiful wreaths and crocheting. She was an avid canner and liked to tend to her garden. Most of all she adored spending time with her family, especially the time spent playing with her beloved grandson, Carder. Sherry was known for her hard work and always putting others before herself.

Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Robert Pritt of West Union, WV; daughter, Shala Denise Ash (Cody) of Clarksburg, WV; grandchild, Carder Ash; brothers, Timothy and Mark Greathouse both of New Milton, WV; and loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elden and Nellie Greathouse.

In accordance with Sherry’s wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. McCullough Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Carol June Lattea

Carole June Lattea, 72 of Salem departed this life on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at her residence. She was born on April 10, 1949 at Industrial a daughter of the late Charles and Joy Mae Law. She is survived by her husband Daril L. Lattea.

Also surviving are one son Rondel Lattea and wife Fabiana, Basel,Switzerland, granddaughter, Andyara Morette, three brothers, John Law (Rita), Salem, Nelson L. Law (Vicki), Salem, Chuck Law, Salem, sister, Shirley Jean Lattea (Richard), Salem, several nieces and nephews. One son Daril Edward Lattea preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lattea was a 1967 graduate of Doddridge County High School. She was retired from Ben Franklin in Salem as a Clerk in the Craft Department with over 20 year’s service. Carole June was a member of Hurst Chapel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Harbert Funeral Home 287 W. Main St. Salem on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 1:00 p .m. with Pastor Kevin Bender presiding. Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday until time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Lattea family.

Diana Ruth Bonnell

Diana Ruth Bonnell, 66, of Smithburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at her residence. Diana was born August 3, 1955 in Clarksburg, daughter of the late Forrest Olin and Margaret Romaine Cox Bonnell. Diana graduated from Doddridge County High School, Class of 1973. She retired from the US Postal Service distribution center in Bridgeport.  She enjoyed painting, collecting coins and sports cards. She was the jokester and life of the party with all her family and friends. Diana is survived by her companion of forty-three years, Janice Eileen Randolph; one daughter, Whitney Ash and Jesse, Weston; two grandchildren, Landen Swafford and Bailey Ash; one brother, Robert Bonnell, West Union; niece, Dana Bonnell, Morgantown.
