DC Schools September Newsletter

Twelve months ago, our students and their families were becoming increasingly familiar with new words like “Microsoft Teams” and “Schoology” and “Seesaw.” They were trying to manage their own work schedules and teach their children in the early morning or late at night. Remote learning was the reality and our teachers worked diligently to prepare classroom work for broadcast, or to be put on thumb drives to be delivered to students at home. Our cooks were preparing meals for our bus drivers to deliver to every child that needed a meal. Thankfully, this year we are in school. Our students are sitting in front of our teachers, playing sports, and enjoying time with friends.

In other news, I am pleased to announce that Doddridge County Schools has received a $498,502

Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Brad Riffee, Executive Director of United Way of Harrison and Doddridge County, was instrumental in helping us receive this grant. The grant will help us to purchase and distribute meals for our students and their families. Students need to concentrate on their studies, not when their next meal might come. The pandemic has disrupted the income of numerous households in our county; and this grant will make sure that our families have nutritious meals.

Thanks to help from Blue Rock Manufacturing, a business partner, we were able to install video boards in the Elementary, Middle and High Schools. These video boards will keep our students, staff, and parents informed of important information at the schools.

Our “Friday Features” have returned. Each week I meet with a student from each school and get to know them a little better. We post these on our Doddridge County Schools Facebook Account and on our webpage. If you like to see our great young people, catch these videos.

Each and every day I come to work with a deep appreciation for our community. With all the challenges we face we are able to keep in the forefront what is most important: our children. We have united around a vision of success for our children. We know and understand that having our students in school is the best way to prepare them for the challenges they will face in their future. Thank you for your support of our students, and all those who are involved in preparing our future leaders for success.
