The topic for Health Motivator was “Calcium for Life” taught by Dene. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. Of the body’s calcium, 99% is in the bones and teeth. Calcium is necessary for muscle function and works with nerves to transmit information from the brain to other body parts. It is important for healthy heart function and blood circulation. Everyone should include two to three calcium-rich foods in your daily diet. Some calcium-rich foods are salmon, dark green leafy vegetables, dairy products. Dene had everyone participate in the “Quick Club Activity.” Chuckle of the Month: Why is calcium vital in the brass instrument manufacturing industry? Because calcium helps build trombones!!!

Debbie taught our lesson “West Virginia’s Wild and Wonderful State Parks.” West Virginia offers two Rail Trails, several wildlife management areas, seven state forests and 36 state parks and resorts. No matter your location in WV, there should be a park nearby for you to explore. Exploring is an excellent way to observe the diverse flora, fauna, waterfalls, and breathtaking views of our state often regarded for its beauty. Work on one of WV’s first state parks began in 1925 when 4,500 acres of second growth timberland was purchased by the Game and Fish Commission. This area now spanning 10,000 acres is known as Watoga State Park. Based on recommendations from Fish and Wildlife Commission, the Legislature acted to secure more land for parks. WV’s State Parks offer a variety of activities including camping, hiking, biking, searching for wildflowers, swimming, fishing, and boating to name a few.

We received thank you cards from Melissa Duffelmyer, Amber Jasso, Erica Ragland, Sissy and Jr., Radio Station WVGV 89.7 FM, and Life Choice Pregnancy Center for our donations there.

Pertaining to our committees, Debbie spoke about Continuing Education. She encouraged everyone to continue collecting pop tabs, and Coke bottle caps, explaining how they are used by the Ronald McDonald House to help others. She really encouraged everyone to continue recycling and if you are not, now is the time to get started!!!

Chair for Family Committee was absent.

We were fortunate to have two new members join our club and another one as a mailbox member.
