Participation in Give Local MOV Day of Giving by Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery Inc.

Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery Inc. (FACC) is a qualified nonprofit organization formed in October 2016 to raise support for a designated Fund with the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation. The Organization’s Board of Directors has a 10-year goal of raising a $100,000 fund to help support the long-term care and maintenance of the Cemetery.  To date, the Fund has received donations of $41,000, and the Fund balance at December 31, 2020 was $50,964.

On May 4, FACC Inc. will be one of 60 organizations participating in the 8th annual Give Local MOV, a day of giving sponsored by the Community Foundation.  On this day only, gifts up to $2,500 to a participating organization are matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis by the Foundation. In addition, three generous supporters of the Cemetery have pledged $1,500 as a dollar-for-dollar Matching Challenge for all gifts to FACC that, cumulatively, exceed $2,500.  With strong support from people who care about the Cemetery, we hope to raise $8,000 for the long-term support of the Cemetery!

Families having loved ones interred in the Cemetery are strongly encouraged to wake up on May 4, go to www.GiveLocalMOV.org and make an online donation to Friends of Auburn Community Cemetery Inc.  A Board member of FACC Inc., Darwin Drain, notes that “over the years, many people moved away from the community in search of jobs or other opportunities. There are 15 family names with more than 8 people interred in the Cemetery.  We are trying to reach people connected to names such as Adams, Brake, Hall, Heckert, Hoff, Mason, Smith, Tharp, Ward, Warner, Watson, Westfall and Williams.  We ask readers to mention this article to friends who may be related to these families and encourage them to donate on May 4”.

There are also several Doddridge County organizations participating in this special one-day fundraising event that merit your support.
