Carlton D. “Cottie” Boyce

  Carlton D. “Cottie” Boyce, 94, of West Union departed this life on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  He was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife of 60 years.  He was born on February 28, 1927 at Cabin Run, a son of the late Lee R. and Nellie B. Ross Boyce.  On November 10, 1948 he married Patricia Williams Boyce who preceded him in death on June 13, 2008.

   Cottie was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Surviving are three daughters; Carla Ann Mitchell (David), West Union, Lisa J. Daquilante (Dan), West Union, Kay Correira, West Union, grandchildren; Christopher Mitchell (Miranda), Kayla Dilcher (Brian), Erika Vis (Jason), Zackary Goldsmith, Conner (Soli) and Colleen Correira, great grandchildren; Blake, Ryder and Cameron Mitchell and Carter Vis.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Coffindaffer, Roberta Foley, one brother, Gerald R. Boyce.

   Cottie enjoyed telling jokes, mowing, weed-eating and keeping his lawn immaculate.  He also enjoyed discussing past and present weather data and watching Mountaineer football and basketball.  He was a devout Christian reading his Bible daily.  He attended church regularly and was a blessing to his congregation with his wealth of Biblical knowledge. 

   Mr. Boyce retired from Equitable Gas Co. in 1985 with 30 year’s service as a Compressor Operator.  Cottie was a lifelong member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church where he served as Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Lay leader and held various other positions.  He was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving in WW II and was a member of VFW Post 3408, West Union

   Funeral services were conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David McCauley and David Mitchell presiding.  Interment followed in the Masonic Memorial Park.  The family received friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 4-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: Cure PSP, 1216 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001 or WVU Hospice, 2673 Davisson Run Rd., Clarksburg, WV 26301.  Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family at www.spurgeonfunerals.com.  Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Boyce family.
