State Department Grants Doddridge County Schools’ Waiver

The West Virginia Board of Education granted Doddridge County Schools’ request to be exempted from the five-day per week requirement for grades Pre-K through 8.  Waivers are provided to districts that utilize classroom teachers to teach both in-person students and full-time students participating in a locally designed virtual program.

Doddridge County Superintendent Adam Cheeseman said, “I believe it was clear that our teachers have demonstrated the ability to provide quality in-person and remote instruction to those students who are committed to learning remotely.  Although we wish there were not a pandemic and all students were in the classroom, we are dedicated to the success of all of our students.”

The state’s waiver will allow the current four-day in-person schedule to continue.  Cheeseman added, “I want to thank our parents for their continued efforts in helping their children during this difficult time.  Our entire community is having to put in extra effort to help our children reach their goals.   Parents are under enormous pressure and we are making every effort to provide a top-quality education.”

The State Board of Education will consider options for counties offering a 4-1 model at its April meeting.
