Lewis Haven Steele, 88 of West Union departed this life on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was born on September 24, 1932 in Mingo County a son of the late Lewis and Mary Alice Noe Steele. On December 25, 1979 he married Phyllis McCutchan Steele who survives.
Also surviving is one stepson, Joey Sutton and wife Shelia, West Union, step grandchildren, Joe Sutton and wife Wendy, Lincolnton, N.C., Jeremy Sutton and wife Amanda, Pullman, step great grandchildren, Jackson, Katie Jo, Colt and Caleb Sutton, Kailee and Morgan Gregg, sisters, Carolyn Chafin, Matewan, Martha Sias and husband Denver, Kenova, Betty Dascole, N.J. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one stepson, Mark Sutton, and one sister, Nancy Slaughter.
Mr. Steele was retired from Carnegie Gas Co. as a foreman with 26 years’ service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving during the Korean Conflict. Lewis was a member of the West Union Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Funeral services were conducted at the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 with Pastor Hunter Mellott presiding. Interment followed in the Masonic Memorial Park.
