James D. George, 72, of Salem, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 at United Hospital Center with his granddaughter April by his side. He was born on September 26, 1949 in Chicago IL. James attended Austin Community High School, and then enlisted in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War. James later moved to Salem where he met his wife and worked in the nursing home giving back to his community.
James is survived by his loving wife Kathy George of Salem, his mother Bobby Ann George of Chicago, IL. His daughters Ginger Kimble of Indiana; Amy and her husband Owen Quinn of West Milford, and his son Jay George of Illinois. His sister Janie and husband Robert Lapage of Mount Morris, IL; sister Janice and husband Marion Smyk of Mount Morris, IL; brother William and wife Phyllis George of Graniteville, SC. Grandchildren Megan Richards and fiancé Taylor Lewis of Indiana. April and her husband Andrew Clevenger of Clarksburg, and Chloe Richards of Indiana. Great grandchildren Amara and Harper Lewis of Indiana. Also, other family members Mary and Mark Lattea of Salem, his Aunt Glaydine Mayle of Salem WV, and many more beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father William Ray George Sr and his brother Jerry D. George both of Illinois and his loving sister-in-law Susie Lloyd of Salem. He was truly loved by so many friends and family.
James will be cremated with a memorial at a later time due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions. Harbert Funeral Home is privileged to serve the George family.
