Howard Dale “Jake” Jacobs, 86, of Smithburg, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Dale was born February 2, 1934 in Worthington, WV, a son of the late Joshua Bee Jacobs and Willa (Bowyers) Keener. He began his working career on the CSX Railroad out of Pottstown, PA. He then enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-1954 and then spent the rest of his life as a self-employed “jack of all trades” handyman. He greatly enjoyed collecting coins, CB radios, and flea markets.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice “Sally” (Swisher) Jacobs; his children, Sally Ann Fahey (John) of Fairmont, WV; Susan Wyckoff (Scott) of Smithburg, WV; Michael “Bozo” Swisher of Smithburg, WV; Jake Jacobs of San Francisco, CA; Kathy Longe of Smithburg, WV; grandchildren, Kayla Turner; Jonna Mundell (Josh); Joshua Fahey (Jackie); Heather Wyckoff; Trace Swisher; Mariah Cutright (Josh); Kelli Hamilton; great grandchildren, Reese; Dakota; Dalon; Jameson; Caitlyn; Kylee; Laiken; Bryer; Braxton, along with his best friend, Prince, and his sister, Mary Bell of West Union, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Smith; Marvin Keener; Flemy Jacobs; Donnie Jacobs; Virginia Hickman, and James Jacobs.
Funeral services were 11am, Monday, February 1, 2021, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, WV. Burial followed in the WV National Cemetery near Grafton, WV. Visitation was held from 2-4pm on Sunday at the funeral home. In accordance with CDC regulations, masks and social distancing were required while inside the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help with the funeral expenses.
