Doddridge County Commission Holds Short Meeting

   Shawn Glaspell, President of the Doddridge County Commission called the  Commission’s regular meeting to order at 6PM on January19, 2021  after holding a silent prayer and reciting the Pledge. 

   All Commissioners were present along with County Clerk Catee Slater and Michelle Britton, Circuit Clerk.  

   Employees present included Chief Deputy Clerk Beth Kellar, Executive Director Randee Britton, Neal Romain, Director of the DCAA, OEMS and Floodplain Manager George Eidel, and Park Director Greg Cottrill. 

   The Commissioners approved the minutes of the last meeting.

  Under Public Comments each spoke to the mess the Country is in and  asking for the citizens to pray for America. 

   Glaspell also thanked the staff and the election officials for their hard work during the Special Levy Election. 

   Their only  agenda item beside Monthly Reports was  “Consideration of Policies and Procedures for COVID-19 Public Safety Measure.

   Discussion was held concerning the vaccinations that are to be given. The question arose if this was just for the actual Courthouse Employees or if they could be given to all of the County employees. 

   Randee Britton indicated she was working on getting a list together of those who would like to take the vaccine (it is not mandatory that the employees take it)  and would give the list to George Eidel to process.    

   The vaccines are to be given at Michels and the Health Department. 

   George Eidel reported: No new Floodplain Permits, He had assisted with both of the vaccine clinics, had assisted at a Structure Fire where  Red Cross was set up to assist the family and had responded to a semi fire,  the Communications Tower was almost completed, State feels that at the rate the vaccines are being given that everyone should be safe by June/July but if the schedule is changed it could be possibly be November or December.

  Neal Romain reported the DCAA’s Primary Account balance is $157,657.90; the”FUND” balance is $310,490.24 and the income in January is $17,681.58.

    There were three State Budget Revisions: 1. Moving $8500 to the election accounts; 2. moving $560,786 from savings to Expenditures for the Simulcast payment; and moving $20,866 to cover an employee who had left leave and benefit pay.

    There was one exoneration approved by the Commission.

   At the end of the meeting, there was some noticeable passing around of cell phones by the Commissioners. President Glaspell announced that the Courthouse had one possible case of COVID. It was understood that an employee had been exposed and was showing symptoms but tested negative. No action was taken by the Commissioners and they indicated they would consider this subject during their Canvassing of the Special Levy on Friday, January 22nd.
