Capito, Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Recognize November as National Lung Cancer Awareness Month

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), along with several of her colleagues, introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate November 2020 as National Lung Cancer Awareness Month. This resolution promotes the importance of early detection of lung cancer to help save lives. It also recognizes the need for research to improve early diagnosis, screening, and treatment.

“As a state, West Virginia is disproportionately impacted by lung cancer. As a result, it’s important that we make certain that resources are available to treat West Virginians impacted by lung cancer and provide accessible avenues that promote screening and early diagnosis. Identifying November as National Lung Cancer Awareness Month is a start, and it helps bring notice and recognition to this issue in our communities. I’m proud to introduce this resolution with my colleagues and I will continue to advocate for life-saving medical resources for the people of our state,” said Senator Capito.

In addition to Senator Capito, the resolution is also cosponsored by U.S. Senators Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), and Tim Scott (R-S.C).
