Nelson Cecil Bruffy, 94 of West Union departed this life on Thursday, July 16, 2020 in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. He was born in Webster Springs on November 25, 1925 a son of the late James Norman and Bessie Jane McCartney Bruffy. On November 12, 1976 he married Edith “Peachy” McKinney Bruffy.
Also surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Bruffy, Melissa, TX, one son Nelson Junior Bruffy and wife Rhonda, West Union, 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nine sisters, Mary Helen Mazzo, Athol, TX, Alice Belle Brown, Morgantown, Janet Cochran, Hayes, VA, Naomi Clutter, West Salem, OH, Ellen Ann (Danny) Givens, Roseburg, OR, Charlotte (Jerry) Jeffry, Bluffton, SC, Karen Hall, Shelbyville, Verna Mae Nistendirk, Georgetown, NC, Linda Saffle, Chippewa Lake, OH, sister-in-laws, Sharon Bruffey, Janet Bruffy and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one son, David Ray Bruffy, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Stephens and four brothers, Homer L. Bruffey, Lawrence, Shorty and Johnny Bruffy.
Mr. Bruffy was retired from the former Hope Natural Gas Co. as a well tender with 30 years’ service. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and especially reading. He was awarded the West Fork Conservation District Conservation Farm in Doddridge County.
Funeral services were conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 56 Front St. West Union on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Richard McMillan presiding. Interment followed in the Masonic Memorial Park. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 4-8 p.m. following CDC requirements of maximum occupancy of 25 guests at a time and mask must be worn in funeral home.
