4th of July on Crystal Lake

For the 2nd year in a row, I have had the unique opportunity to experience the 4th of July at Crystal Lake similar to my childhood days.   We tend to take for granted our surroundings and the people we share our lives.   On Saturday while all the events were taking place, I  witnessed the people on the lake cheering the kids as they fished and as they kayaked to a finish line, as families came together to decorate their golf carts for the golf cart competition, it was amazing.    As everyone, young and old, danced under the moonlight as the water sparkled from the lights of the clubhouse and then the fireworks under a beautiful moon that lite up the sky as the music of Neil Diamond’s America and Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA played.  I thought back over my youth and my memories of the lake and my family and neighbors.   It may also have been a time of turmoil, but not here, not at Crystal Lake.    The same goes for now, the world seems to be spinning out of control but there is solace among the Hills.
