Zelma E. Kelley, 86, of Greenwood, WV (Long Run Community) departed this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Zelma was born January 27, 1934 on Leeson Run near Greenwood, WV, a daughter of the late Forest and Ruth L. (Jones) Britton. She began her working career as an LPN in Pittsburgh, PA working for the John Cain Hospital. She then worked many years for Britton’s Nursing Home of West Union, WV and for several other nursing homes in the area. Lastly, Zelma worked as a nurse’s aide for Camden Clark Medical Center until her retirement at age 70.
Zelma also worked for over 10 years as an EMT for the Doddridge County Emergency Squad and she was an honorary member. She was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church until its closing and she then attended the Smithburg United Methodist Church. Zelma was a member of the West Union OES #56 and she greatly enjoyed travelling, the beach, camping, her grandkids, and her family.
She is survived by her children, Richard Kelley (Margaret) of Greenwood, WV; Cathy Richards (Ronald) of Greenwood, WV; Ruth Ann Richards of Greenwood, WV, Linda Kelley of Greenwood, WV; Sandra Clevenger of Greenwood, WV; 10 grandchildren and many loving great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Patsy Tucker (James) of Lumberport, WV; Edwin Lee Britton of St. Marys, WV and William Paul Britton (Sharon) of Oxford, WV (Cabin Run). She also leaves behind the over 200 foster children that she helped raise.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her step mother, Christine Britton who raised Zelma from just a little girl; her beloved husband, Bernard E. Kelley who passed away in 2014, and her sibling, Patrick Forest Britton.
A graveside service took place 1:30pm, Saturday, May 16, 2020, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, WV with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. Due to the public health concerns all other services will be private.
